Homecoming
Sunshine, a 41-17 win over Kenyon College, two new records (set by third-year Dee Brizzolara) and the Phoenix dancing every time we score a touchdown? Sounds like my idea of a Saturday afternoon.

What’s new, pussycat? This Autumn, Doc Films will screen selected Woody Allen movies every Friday and Sunday. Have a look at the selections.
Mansueto Party
Dedicating the Mansueto Library sounds like the best job ever. Seen here, in Harper Memorial Library, President Robert J. Zimmer thanks the Mansuetos for their generosity, Helmut Jahn for his architectural vision, and shares his own personal story about how libraries give individuals the freedom to learn.
If you’ve visited our Admissions Office, these are some of the wonderful students you would have bumped in to! Current students ready to give you advice comprise PSAC, the Prospective Students’ Advisory Committee; if you have questions you’d like to ask a current student (How’s… the food? Computer science? Women’s rugby? Scav Hunt?) e-mail them to psac@uchicago.edu.
One day I went around the office asking students and admissions counselors “What are you a nerd about?” This is one of the replies.
Pickles and pickling things. Brine. Anything with brine. Basically preserving foods of any kind. I could seriously talk about fruit pectin FOR HOURS. Also when I was in high school I was a no-joke card-carrying member of the X-Files fan club. Does that count?

Here’s an interactive map for that.
Ever wonder what a musical tribute to a library might sound like? It’s certainly not silent! Here’s “double helix” for two violins, composed in honor of the Mansueto Library by Augusta Read Thomas, University Professor of Composition in the Department of Music and the College.
The Chicago Manual of Style and WBEZ are having a “Show us your Style” photo contest; here’s our entry.
Sororities.
Last weekend was a big one for the girls of UChicago’s Greek Life. Each sorority spent a while getting to know, and then welcomed, new members into the pledge classes of 2011. To learn more about the way of the greek letters at UChicago, click here.
