WWDBT (What Would Dean Boyer Think)

Take Me Out: Innocent indieish rock song or too many allusions to the assassination of the Archduke to be coincidence? Discuss.

Overheard at the Book Parade
[Books are being placed on the Faculty Writers table after a symbolic block-long journey from the old Seminary Co-Op to its new location]
“Jonathan Lear, A Case for Irony.” Polite applause.
“Ken Warren, What Was African American Literature?” More polite applause.
“John Boyer, Karl Lueger.” Louder applause. “I love you, Dean Boyer!” shouts a bespectacled young man. “You’re my hero!”
“Theo van den Hout, The Elements of Hittite.” The crowd goes wild. “Hittite!” someone yells. “Yeah!”

UChicago Careers in Education Professions Launched!

UIEP was launched earlier this week. Dean Boyer, pictured above, gave a talk and the students were left with a lot to ponder over their dinners. UChicago has had a strong commitment to education since the times of John Dewey and UIEP continues this tradition by helping students prepare for careers in teaching, policy, research and administration.
