In the process of expanding, the University of Chicago bought the old Chicago Theological Seminary building, and built CTS and new building (right next door to where I work, at the U of C Press building, incidentally). Where, though, to put an organ which wouldn’t quite “fit” the new space? The big Rockefeller Memorial Chapel isn’t exactly a good fit for the Reneker…also, it already has really nice, really big, recently renovated organ. Ah! The Divinity School’s Bond Chapel! The organ fits physically and, I think, atmospherically. The Reneker is smaller and the university’s organist (yes, U of C has a university organist) says it is more suited to Baroque compositions, while the big one at Rockefeller is more suited to Romantic pieces.
